Luxury accommodation on a working farm
As well as offering first class luxury accommodation, Dannah is still very much a working farm
As well as offering Luxury Accommodation, Dannah is still very much a Working Farm. We are tenants of the Chatsworth Estates and farm around 155 acres. Situated just below Alport Heights, the Farm is 900 feet above sea level, and enjoys commanding views of the surrounding Derbyshire Dales and The Peak District.
We came to Dannah Farm in 1985 and over the years we have had sheep and beef cattle and have grown a variety of crops, from barley to linseed. Currently the land is down to Wheat, Barley and Oilseed Rape with some of the grassland used for grazing. There is often activity on the farm, especially at the crucial harvesting and planting times.
Both Dannah and all the local farmland is crisscrossed with footpaths and is perfect for walking – from gentle strolls to more strenuous hikes! The countryside around Dannah is alive with wildlife, and home to many wild birds. Buzzards, kestrels, snipe, lapwing, skylarks and a variety of owls can all be seen within our boundaries, and there are many resident badgers, foxes and hares.
Our own assorted “livestock”, a brace of adorable Kune-Kune pigs –Wilma and Betty, and some very spoilt farm cats provide guests with much interest and entertainment. Sheep and cattle can be seen grazing in the fields all around, and in the spring the lambs are a real delight.
Dannah Farm is very much a working farm offering luxury accommodation. James our eldest son now takes care of running the farm side of Dannah Farm, as well as operating an agricultural contracting business, leaving the rest of us free to concentrate on offering a superb and unforgettable B&B in the Derbyshire Dales.
